Needy Fund helps parents of three make car insurance payments

Car insurance is important for all of us, but when you make a living as a driver, it becomes that much more essential.

A Hyannis couple with three children called the Cape Cod Times Needy Fund for assistance out of worry that they weren’t going to be able to make payments on their car insurance.

The couple was able to file for unemployment during the pandemic, and once restrictions were eased, the father went back to work as a driver. The mother’s job as a restaurant worker did not resume until the tourist season got busier, though, so she had to stay on unemployment.

She also needed to stay at home to care for the family’s newborn child.

The Needy Fund helped the family with payments for  insurance on the car that was now vital to the one job supporting the family. The Needy Fund also provided Stop & Shop gift cards to help the family pay for groceries.

Many human service agencies offer assistance to those in need, but the Cape Cod Times Needy Fund has been helping with a host of immediate, short-term emergencies such as food, rent, medical costs and other basic expenses since 1936.

No cash is given to Needy Fund recipients. Instead, the agency pays vendors through a voucher program. The case described above was provided by the Needy Fund on condition of anonymity.
